5 crude bombs blasted at RU, 3 held
Five crude bombs were blasted at Rajshahi University today, triggering panic among students during the first day of a campus strike sponsored by Islami Chhtra Shibir.
However, none were injured in the incident, reports our RU correspondent. Three persons were held in connection to the blasts.
A crude bomb was exploded on the third floor of Rabindra Bhaban and another inside Shahidullah Arts Bhaban around noon, witnesses said.
RU Proctor Professor Tarikul Islam blamed Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, activists for the explosions. “They were aiming to destabilise the campus.”
Police held three, including two students, from the campus in connection with the blasts, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
Shibir called the 2-day campus strike yesterday, protesting the death of a leader, Sahabuddin Ripon, the information and technology affairs secretary of RU unit of Shibir, in a “shootout” with law enforcers at Katakhali outside the city on February 6.
