Husband hurls acid on teenage wife in Rajshahi
A 30-year-old man threw acid on his wife while she was sleeping at her parents' house in Rajshahi's Godagari upazila early today, police said.
The victim Mahbuba Begum of Raninagar village is a dakhil student at a local madrassa, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station.
Mahbuba and Murad Ali, whose families are neighbours, got married a year ago, the OC said quoting locals.
However, the victim has been living with her parents for the last four months. Recently she told her day-labourer husband that she does not want to live with him anymore, the OC said.
"Last night Murad broke into Mahbuba's parents' house around 3am and hurled acid at her while she was sleeping," OC Khairul said.
She was admitted at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital following the incident.
The acid attack left the victim's face and neck burnt, the OC also said quoting RMCH doctors.
Murad and his family members have been absconding since the attack.
No case was yet filed in this connection.
