Few have the courage: Priyanka Gandhi on brother Rahul's resignation

A day after Rahul Gandhi gave finality to his decision to resign as Congress President owning responsibility for the party's drubbing in parliamentary poll, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today commended her brother saying "Few have the courage that you do".

Rahul Gandhi posted a four-page letter yesterday making it clear that he would follow through his decision he announced in May that he had resigned as "accountability is critical" for the future growth of the Congress, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

"Few have the courage that you do @rahulgandhi. Deepest respect for your decision," Priyanka Gandhi said in a twitter post re-tweeting her brother's post.

In his letter, Rahul had said "It is a habit in India that the powerful cling to power, no one sacrifices power. But we will not defeat our opponents without sacrificing the desire for power and fighting a deeper ideological battle."

Calling for "radical transformation" in the Congress, he said "Rebuilding the party requires hard decisions and numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019. It would be unjust to hold others accountable but ignore my own responsibility as president of the party."

Rahul had also said in the letter that he would not be part of any exercise to choose his successor as the party chief.

Rahul Gandhi had first told the Congress Working Committee about his decision to quit on May 25, just two days after the national election result that saw the Congress suffering its second worst defeat in parliamentary elections with 52 seats, just eight more than it got in the previous parliamentary poll five years ago.
