Transport movement on Dhaka-Chattogram highway remained suspended for two hours this morning as workers of a jute mill blocked the highway in Cumilla, demanding arrears of last five months and Eid bonus. 

Hundreds of workers of Debidwar's Asha Jute Mill blocked the highway at Atapur point in front of the mill around 9:00am.

They also set tyres on fire on the highway, halting traffic movement, reports our Cumilla correspondent.

Saleh Ahmed, in-charge of Iliotganj police outpost, said the workers removed the blockade after the mill authorities in a negotiation with police assured that they will clear arrears and pay half of the Eid bonus tomorrow.

Vehicular movement resumed on the highway around 11:00am after the workers left.
