KMCH begins trial of Favipiravir for Covid-19
Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) has started clinical trials of Favipiravir to test its effectiveness as treatment for Covid-19 patients in the country.
The trials will be conducted on those currently undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of KMCH and its Covid-19 dedicated hospital, Dr Shoilendranath Biswas, chief of the team told reporters.
It will begin from today and continue till September, he said, adding that 100 patients of the hospital will be given the medicine and the outcome will be published in an international journal.
The effectiveness of the medicine will be decided based on the result of the trial, Biswas, also a medicine consultant of the KMCH, said.
Dr S K Ballav, former principal of the KMCH, Dr Sheikh Farid Uddin Ahmed, its associate professor and Dr Tahmida Khanam, Dr Mainul Islam, Dr Shirin and Dr Avijit, medical officers (medicine department),will act as co-investigators of the team.
