Mitu murder: PBI submits progress report on investigation to High Court
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today submitted a report on the progress of investigation into gruesome murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former superintendent of police (SP) of Chattogram Babul Akter, before the High Court.
PBI's inspector and investigation officer of the case, Santosh Kumar Chakma, submitted the report to the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman in line with its December 2, 2020 order, Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told The Daily Star.
He said the HC bench will hold hearing on the matter on February 4.
DAG Sarwar, however, refused to disclose the contents of the report of the case.
During hearing a bail petition of Motaleb Mia Wasim, an accused, the HC bench on December 2 last year wanted to know the progress of the case investigation.
On that day, IO Santosh Kumar told the HC that the charge sheet of the case will be submitted to the trial court soon.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was stabbed and shot dead when she was walking with her son to his school bus stop at Chattogram city's GEC intersection. After the murder, her husband Babul Akter filed a case against three unidentified men with Panchlaish Police Station.
Law enforcers reportedly arrested five persons -- Motaleb Mia Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Ehteshamul Haque alias Bhola, Md Shahjahan and Saidul Sikder Shakur.
