ACTIONISTS highlights the corporate environmental responsibilities
With a view to promoting environmental consciousness to restore ecosystem, ACTIONISTS arranged a webinar on 12 June, 2021. The topic of the webinar was "Implementing Corporate Environmental Accountability in Bangladesh: Challenges and Way Forward".
Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of Bangladesh precisely identified that the countries that contribute the most in carbon-emission can play the most significant and pivotal role regarding the industrial production in pursuance to environmental protection. He drew attention to the recent disasters and the notable role of Sundarbans. Advocate Manzill Murshid, President of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh underscored how devastating it will be if proper actions are not taken to ensure sustainability given the present imbalance between the economic development and environment pollution. He emphasised on the fact that the rights of nature requires importance and attention as much as the human rights. Furthermore, Barrister Shehrin Salam Oishee, Director, BGMEA Director, Envoy Group Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh pointed out the national indicators and policies that are continuously working for a better protection of environment along with ensuring the transaction and business between the foreign buyers and national sellers. She also highlighted that environmental issues are given the crucial importance on some level and international investors are auditing the management thereof; so it is our conjoint duty to be aware of the environmental factors and work on these diligently in relation with our industrial activities.
