Arla Foods: Working towards dairy development in Bangladesh
In 1961, the people of Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) were introduced to powdered milk. This innovation solved two problems: easy accessibility and long-term storage. Dano was the product introduced. Since then, dairy innovation became a part of Dano's journey and was spurred further when the producer of the powder milk, Arla Foods, the European dairy cooperative, officially started its operation in Bangladesh in 2013.
Arla, the world's fourth-largest dairy company, started its journey more than a hundred years ago with milk from its dairy farms in Europe. Raw materials for various dairy products are taken from around 8,400 farmer-owners. Interestingly, the dairy cooperative controls every aspect of the entire value chain from how the cows are treated and fed, processing all the products in its facilities to delivering the final nutritious products to the purchasing point. This ensures that the food that reaches the tables of the consumers is of the highest quality.
In Bangladesh, Arla continues to stay committed to its global quality ethos. Through the years, Arla Foods Bangladesh has implemented several rigorous approaches to make sure that its manufacturing facility meets the required safety standards. Arla Foods Bangladesh's Gazipur factory is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and FSSC 22000 (Version 5.1) to ensure that the Dano milk powder it repackages adheres to the highest quality standards at all times.

Dano was the first dairy brand in the country to come up with an affordable solution for the low-income population: Tk 10 sachets for one glass of milk. Arla Bangladesh is continuing the introduction of various other sachet options for ease of affordability. It is also the first dairy company to carry out activities at the field level to inform the common people about the nutritional needs of milk.
To improve milk productivity, quality, and economic output of the local dairy industry in Bangladesh, Arla Foods Bangladesh and Pran Dairy began working together at the beginning of 2022. Initially, the partnership included farm evaluations to enhance capacity and explore sustainable dairy farming alternatives. Following this, training workshops were held for various stakeholders to support dairy operations.
In addition to bolstering the local dairy value chain, Arla and Pran Dairy will also work with Bangladesh Agricultural University. The university will scientifically gather data to help Arla and Pran Dairy analyse their partnership's social, environmental, and economic effects in Bangladesh.
Arla has two categories of powdered milk for the people, Dano Power and Dano Daily Pushti.
