House of Gucci: Not just about a fashion empire
Ever since the first trailer aired in March, House of Gucci had fashion fans hooked. The star-studded movie with Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek and Al Pacino in lead roles premiered at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square, London on the 9 November and is set to make its US release on 24 November, 2021.
House of Gucci is an American biographical crime drama directed by Ridley Scott based on the book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed written by Sara Gay Forden in 2001. The book is non-fiction but characters such as Maurizio Gucci, played by Adam Driver and Patrizia Reggiani played by Lady Gaga are based on real people.
The plot revolves around a "commoner", Patrizia, who marries into the illustrious Gucci family and wishes to be seen as a true force in the dynasty. To feed her unbridled ambition, she tries to pit the family against one another, even turning against her husband in her relentless, almost cruel quest to rise to the top.
The movie promises to be a treat for fashion enthusiasts if the trailers are anything to go by. We have seen Lady Gaga sport Christian Dior ski goggles and a killer burgundy ski suit on the Italian slopes. Adam Driver is seen in a cream Aran pullover and outsized aviator glasses. Gaga also pulls off a white fur Cossack hat with a black turtleneck and classic statement jewellery.
Playing up both conservative white laces, racy polka dotted affairs and bold, gold chainmail numbers, Lady Gaga stuns in each outfit she wears. The look we are partial to a mink coat that Gaga dons over a red dress that looks like the love child of luxury and comfort but the movie promises a favourite ensemble for every fashion aficionado out there.
