Celebration of International Women's Day at Citi Bangladesh

CITI Bangladesh has launched the “Citi Women's Network Bangladesh,” a diversity network for Citi's female employees for connecting them, inspiring changes and making progress. The network was launched in Bangladesh on March 8, 2015, to celebrate International Women's Day.  The global network is intended to facilitate the career development of Citi's female employees through the sharing of their experiences, and engaging in guided mentorship and professional training.
The network is Citi's sixth women's network in the Asia Pacific Region, with three in India, one in Hong Kong, and one in the Philippines. Additionally, it is the 43rd women's network globally. The network was formally launched by Rashed Maqsood, Managing Director and Citi Country Officer for Bangladesh through the introduction of the Network's logo. In observation of the day, he said, “We are very proud to launch the Citi Women's Network Bangladesh. Our annual participation in the celebration is a strong reminder to all employees that the recruitment, involvement and advancement of women are business imperatives.” Shamium Akhter Ela, Country Legal Counsel Citi Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and Nuzhat Anwar, Head of Financial Institutions Group, Citi Bangladesh, were also present, along with Citi Bangladesh's female employees.
The event started off at Gardenia Grand Hall with a breast cancer awareness session for all female employees and female spouses of employees. The network emphasised on addressing the preventative measures that can be taken against breast cancer. The session was conducted by Dr Afsari Ahmed and Dr Lubna Mariam, Junior Consultants at United Hospital. Myths and misconceptions about the cancer were discussed, along with demonstrations of breast self-examination. Investing on women's health is a step forward for the empowerment of women.
The event marked the global International Women's Day celebration. More than 220 events across 130 cities in 90 countries were hosted by businesses and women's counsels and networks in observation of the day. The launching of the network is a milestone for Citi Bangladesh. The network is expected to engage employees, provide developmental opportunities for women that enhance their ability to contribute in the workplace and promote networking to share knowledge and experiences.
