Wearable winter couture

‘Tis the season to be elegant and classy. The mercury levels are as low as they ever tend to be here, and people are finally sorting through their previous year’s winter wardrobes, looking for that one statement piece that had successfully turned heads.

Once through the collection, they are most likely to find faux furs and foreign shawls — clothes that would seem only repetitive today and prove no valid point, much less make any worthy statements.

Today, fashion speaks more about the stories related to the craftsmanship, the design, and the weaving techniques rather than just mindlessly being about the brands and the associated price tags.

The more ethical your clothes are; the more value they create. Based on similar beliefs, this year, Studio Mayasir has created ultra-fashionable, ethical and completely locally produced quilted jackets and shawls that are unique and can be worn over any attire.

"The best feeling about it all is that the entire collection is completely deshi and woven locally by women in the marginal communities. The prints are unique and reflect the essence of Bangladesh; the colours are vibrant, ranging from maroon to olive green to black — they are shades for every occasion, mood and disposition," says Maheen Khan, designer and owner, Studio Mayasir.

These fitted jackets look good over any piece of clothing, be it Anarkalis, long dresses, or a sari. On occasions when wearing a shawl over the sari is more customary than fashionable, we could definitely look out for the quilted jackets as a stylish alternative to the traditional.

And if these very same jackets are paired with stylish cloth jewellery, like boho necklaces, tassels and earrings, the style quotient would definitely turn up a notch. And interestingly, all that and more is available at Studio Mayasir by Maheen Khan.

So, before winter bids adieu in 2020, maybe we can quickly revamp our wardrobes with ethically driven yet fashionable winter coats.
