Zero hour Tailor tweets

"A(fa) go maaf koiren ami 'sick' asilam apner ka(f)orer kaj shesh korte (f)ari nai," ping went my Viber, in the middle of the night!  I wouldn't have worried much if it wasn't chaand raat already. But, did you think I was born yesterday, or completely at the mercy of the tailor? Well, I am not!  I already have alternates ready and immediately after the dreadful message, my plan B went into effect.

Of the many love-hate relationships we brew, our relationship with our tailors has got to be on top of the list. We cannot tolerate their messes, nor can we live without them. Even though they can be our biggest saviours in times of wardrobe malfunctions, they can be just as big of a headache with their silly mistakes. All these mishaps and bickering make for, some good tea-time stories to share with your girls.

When they lose your sample clothes, forever

Having to take or give measurements every single time is a hassle, which is why some of us decide it is easier to simply take an older dress that fits and measuring from that instead. However, if you have ever taken more than one sample piece at once, and God forbid, actually left it there, 3 out of 4 times, you are not getting them all back.

Somehow, they seem to disappear, or worse, "they were never there." But with the new clothes still in your tailors' precious hands, you cannot even argue, for it might just reflect on your new dress. To be on the safe side, bring back all your samples after measuring, and do not leave them for later.

The time they mixed up designs with someone else's

One of the most exciting feelings is knowing your brand new dress is fully stitched and ready to wear. Until you actually visit your tailor's to see unfamiliar measurements and sometimes, even designs, and all the excitement runs down the drain. The only consolation is perhaps knowing that someone else shares the pain.

When they decide to become 'Bespoke Designers'

This can be both a blessing and a curse, depending on what the tailor decides to do. We understand that making hundreds of dresses for a variety of customers make these tailors pros at understanding colour combinations and shapes better than us, but unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Sometimes, they might outdo themselves with a little personal tweak that will leave us in awe, wondering why we do not take their recommendations into consideration more often. Other times, a sequined lace makes its way onto our formals, or a red border on a yellow top resembling a McDonalds uniform.

Back to front

On rare occasions, tailor will mess up a dress on a whole new level. He will not ruin the length, nor the width, and you will have the perfect fit with the most beautiful neckline. He will however make you scream in agony when you see the back of your dress set to front, and front to back. This might seem made up, but it is every bit true. The worst part about this mishap is that it is pretty much impossible to fix it, unless you consider cutting off 1/4th of your dress from the top, which to be honest, is not possible.

Except for the few blessed ones who have not come across such encounters with their tailors, we offer our condolences to everyone else who had to witness the destruction of a precious dress. As we cannot do without these craftsmen, let us try to get along, be specific, and prepared!
