Making our Tigers look good
The name, Shejan Lincon, has become synonymous with the Bangladesh Cricket Team. He has emerged as a designer with an eye for sleek, comfortable and stylish designs. A graduate from Shanto-Mariam University for Creative Technology, Shejan has always dreamt of making it big in the creative industry. He first came into the limelight when he won the Jersey Utsav Championship organised by Grameenphone in 2011. His talent got noticed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and he landed the offer to design the jerseys of the Bangladesh Cricket Team from 2012.
Shejan's designs reflect the patriotism, glory and resilience of Bangladesh. The various shades of red and green colours are understandably the main palettes of his design. His 2014 jersey design was inspired by the curves of the Jatiyo Smriti Shoudho, and this year's design depicts the majestic Sundarbans. The mangrove forests are portrayed as in-depth textured patterns, the channels and rivers as curved lines, and the Royal Bengal Tiger is symbolised as a tiger face art work.
Shejan designs the jerseys through a contract with Texweave Bangladesh and Bangladesh Cricket Board. He has designed for other teams such as Bangladesh Football Federation, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Basketball Federation as well. He plans to design jerseys for the national cricket teams of West Indies, England and Australia in the upcoming years.
Other than designing for the Bangladesh Cricket Team, Shejan is also involved with the ad agency, Fiesta Advertising Limited, as the head of creative design. He spends much time overseeing the PR activities of Shakib Al Hasan, and leads product design, event management and ad-development projects of the agency.
Shejan says that it takes a lot of dedication to survive and succeed in the design industry. He encourages the youth to consider working in the RMG development sector as designers, and asserts that there are lots of opportunities for those with creative minds. Most importantly, he believes that when hard work and perseverance are combined with one's passion, success comes inevitably.
