Stay ahead of the curve with the haircut

Whether it is the micro fringe, the pin rolls, the funky updos or the return of the vintage style, 2017 brings with it the perfect opportunity to try out the most coveted hairstyles of the century. We asked Sabikun Nahar, a top hairstylist and colourist of Dhaka, to predict the biggest trends in hairstyles for this year.

The boyish look

The androgynous look rules this year. Even though a little adventurous for the Bangladeshi woman, many with high cheekbones and sharp jaw lines are experimenting with the look.

Top of the hair updos

Chic and simple to recreate, these hairstyles beat the summer heat fashionably. Most celebrities in our region and the western world are sporting the trendy look for both formal and casual occasions.

The return of the vintage

Nothing screams 'style' more than vintage! There is the Coco-Channel look, the faux bob, the Gibson roll, pin rolls, French twist, hair flips, Brigitte Bardot updo, bouffant and even the curly disco queen look. Vintage never left our hearts and in 2017, this fact is even more accurate because it welcomes back panache along with these styles.

The super sleek hairdo

We have seen actresses on the red carpet don the super sleek hairstyles with poise and comfort. This style can be easily copied and brought to life, provided you have medium length to long hair.

The super straight

If you thought the super straight was completely out and you had thrown away all your straightening gear, then it's time to get them all back because 2017 has welcomed the style back onto the fashion scene.

The modern bob

The bob actually never goes out of fashion, but this year, modern twists and turns can be added to bring out the 'zing' factor. Experimental textures and sharper symmetry can make the traditional bob far less predictable than its predecessor.

"The main idea is to have fun," says Nahar, hairstylist at Hair Bar Bangladesh. "Hairstylists can give you any look based on your features and the trend, but the basic trait is that you must also fall in love with the cut. The style must be enjoyed and lived and only then will it speak volumes," she adds.

Speaking super sleek and stylish: Get the best  from your look

♦ Use only the best of hair-gel to get the desired look

♦ Apply a generous amount of the hair gel and smooth out hair from the top to the bottom in a back-brush motion.

♦ Evenings can see you wear a single flower behind your ears.

♦ A colourful headband can also add a vibrant twist to the look.

♦ After-care is very important. Make sure you wash off all the hair products with a good shampoo.

♦ Use the best leave-in conditioner available in the market.

♦ Alternative styles to the sleek -- Messy is always in! Use soufflé to wave your hair up a bit, and then be our guest to marvel at the striking new look.

Expert Suggestions

♦ If you have a short neck or a double chin please steer clear of the sleek look.

♦ For any hairstyles you follow you must get a regular trim, every four to six weeks.

♦ If you hate any sort of haircut, never fret. The best thing about hair is that it always grows out.
