Mohammad Nasim undergoes successful surgery after stroke
Former health and family welfare minister and Awami League senior leader Mohammad Nasim has undergone a successful surgery after having a stroke while undergoing Covid-19 treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital.
The operation was carried out early today at the hospital in the city's Shyamoli area, Tanvir Shakil Joy, Nasim's son and a former AL MP, said.
Talking to The Daily Star, Awami League office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua said, "Nasim bhai has been shifted to the ICU of the hospital."
Nasim, also a senior presidium member, was admitted to the hospital on June 1 after he complained of feeling unwell. Later, he tested positive for coronavirus.
Earlier on Thursday, the condition of the politician improved and he was scheduled to be shifted to a cabin from the ICU, he added.
Nasim has been acting as the convenor of the AL-led 14-party alliance.
Top leaders of the alliance today expressed deep concern over Nasim's health.
