The busy Nabinagar-Chandra road connecting Savar and Gazipur was widened into four lanes more than one year ago considering the volume of traffic it handles daily, but the initiative has been effectively botched by local businessmen who have grabbed the roadside areas to sell bricks along a one and a half kilometres stretch. One trader said they were using the land, which belongs to the Roads and Highways Department, by 'winning' the backing of local ruling party thugs. He, however, did not name anyone.
