Catches of big-sized hilsa have been very poor in the sea over the past week. But demand for the national fish, also the country's most favourite, remains unabated. This comes as an opportunity for a string of fishermen to net and sell jatka in large quantities, which is totally illegal. Such big catches of jatka also dry up the fish's supply later, accounting for its exorbitant price in some season. Photo: Anurup Kanti Das
