The Department of Livestock and Fisheries gave the panels to 14 such boats, which have reduced the risk of being hit by larger vessels at night. A rice-laden truck stuck between a ferry and a pontoon in Patuakhali's Kalapara upazila, after the iron planks connecting them collapsed around 4:30pm yesterday under the weight of the vehicle. A salvage operation was going on when the paper went to press at 10:30pm. As traffic pressure increased on both sides of the Andharmanik river, authorities opened the Sheikh Kamal bridge in advance of its formal inauguration, due in February, to facilitate vehicular movement. Visitors at a group art exhibition titled 20=40, which started at the capital's Galleri Kaya yesterday. The two-week exhibition will showcase 40 works by 20 renowned contemporary artists, done in watercolour, woodcut print, etching, serigraphy, pastel, acrylic, pen, oil and mixed medium.
