Carrying a heap of jute, a farmer arrives at a temporary market in Uthhuli area of Manikganj’s Shivalaya upazila. Jute growers in Manikganj have had a good yield this year and they are selling per maund of the fibre for Tk 1,800-2,000 at 10 such markets in the district. Traders buy jute from them and supply it to several mills in other districts. The photo was taken on Sunday. Photo: Anisur Rahman
It’s hard to believe that the Khilgaon-Basabo canal once ran through this place in the capital’s Mughda Para area. Unabated dumping of waste and mindless grabbing have choked the waterbody to death. The photo was taken on Sunday. Photo: Sk Enamul Haq
Trucks parked on the road taking up entire lanes in Tejgaon’s Satrasta area is a perennial problem. The late DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq successfully spearheaded a campaign in 2015 to recover the area from illegal truck parking but sadly, the nuisance has returned. These BRTC trucks along with cars and other vehicles were seen parked, taking up much of the road space, in Satrasta area yesterday. Photo: Sheikh Mehedi Morshed
Part of the Kalapara-Kuakata Bikalpa Sarak is being eroded by the Sonatola river in Patuakhali’s Tegachhia Bazar area. About 50 metres of the boundary wall, put up to protect the road, collapsed recently. The Local Government Engineering Department had built the wall and repaired the road only a year ago.
