Last year around this time, the price of onion shot up beyond the purchasing power of many, forcing them to resort to open-market sales by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh. This year, with high import volumes, prices are low in the market and the interest in TCB trucks is low. Salespersons at a truck in the capital’s Khamarbari said they are having to stay open late into the night to sell onions at Tk 25 per kg.
