In droves, devotees enter the Biswa Ijtema ground on the Turag in Tongi yesterday, the first day of the second phase of the religious congregation. The Ijtema, known as the largest annual Islamic event after the Hajj, is expected to end after the Akheri Munajat tomorrow.

A metal pipe set up over the walkway along the Buriganga, hindering movement of pedestrians. Traders use engines to illegally unload sand from vessels and pump it to the shore through this pipe.
