This canal, in Kamrangirchar’s Kurar Ghat, was once connected to the Buriganga. Due to illegal encroachment and sand filling, it was later severed from the river, causing the canal’s water to become stagnant and heavily polluted. Every day, locals need to cross the canal to get to the other side, but the toxic smell from the water makes it difficult to tolerate the trip. The photo was taken recently.
