Blocking the street with vehicles near Kashipur intersection in Khulna city, tanker workers yesterday demanded the release of Ali Azim, general secretary of the Khulna Divisional Tanker Workers’ Union, who was arrested in a case filed over vandalising a BNP office. They went on a strike for an indefinite period.

Police action against teachers of Swatantra Ebtedayee madrasas -- primary level educational institutions under the madrasa board -- in the Shahbagh area yesterday. The law enforcers charged truncheons and used water cannons to disperse them as they were heading towards to the Chief Adviser’s Office to submit a memorandum seeking the nationalisation of all such registered institutions.
