Municipal polls: Farmer hurt in Barguna clash dies
An elderly man who was injured in a clash during yesterday’s municipality elections in Barguna succumbed to his wounds today.
Nurul Islam, 65, a farmer of Dhupti village of Barguna Sadar Upazila, died at Barguna General Hospital around 11:45am, our correspondent reports quoting Dr Kamrul Islam, a residential medical officer.
Md Ishaque, Nurul’s elder son, said his father was hit by a stick during the clash when he went to the town to see election activities.
At least 25 people including Nurul Islam were injured in the clash between supporters of Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Kamrul Ahsan Mharaj and AL rebel candidate Md Shahadat Hossain.
Nurul might have died due to his old age, Reaz Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barguna Sadar Police Station said.
Sub Inspector Md Motaleb Hossain filed a case with the police station accusing over 500 unknown people over clash on polls day.
