‘Murdered’ girl found alive: Accused Khalilur Rahman gets bail
A court in Narayanganj today granted bail to Khalilur Rahman -- one of three accused -- who confessed to raping and killing a class-V female student later found alive.
Anisur Rahman, judge of Narayanganj district and judge's court, passed the order after hearing a bail petition, said Khalilur lawyer advocate Abdul Latif.
The court also fixed September 7 for hearing on bail petitions filed by two other accused, Abdullah and Rakib, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting the lawyer.
On August 31, the three accused appealed before the court of Narayanganj Judicial Magistrate Kawsar Alam for withdrawing the confessional statements.
In the appeal, the three alleged that they gave the confessional statements after being intimidated by police during remand.
Yesterday, Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station Asaduzzaman and suspended sub-inspector Shamim Ala Mamun gave their explanations over the incident to a court.
The schoolgirl went missing on July 4. Her father filed a case with the police station on August 6 over the abduction of his daughter.
Later, police arrested the three accused -- Md Abdullah (22), Md Rakib (19), and Khalilur Rahman (36).
On August 9, the accused testified under section 164 in the courts of the Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate and Judicial Magistrate. In their confessional statements, the accused said they had killed the girl after raping her and dumped her body into the Shitalakkhya river, said police.
Later, the accused were sent to jail.
On August 24, a police team, however, found the girl alive in Kushiara area of Narayanganj's Bandar upazila, 49 days after she had gone missing.
On Monday, SI Shamim Ala Mamun was suspended over the incident.
