The operation ‘Hit Strong 27’

The operation 'Hit Strong 27', a special anti-militant drive of joint forces that killed three militants including Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, began early today after the law enforcers suspected that Tamim might hide in Paikpara area of Narayanganj.

Talking to journalists, Sanwar Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit, described how the operation was carried out.

PREPARATION

A joint team led by Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit set for Narayanganj around 2:30am from Dhaka.

The law enforcers pinpointed a three-storey building beside a graveyard around 6:00am.

Then, the joint forces collected the tenants' forms from the house owner. Based on the documents, they confirmed that the militants were residing on the second floor of the three-storey building.

A team of the joint forces entered the house to meet the land lord while another team went to the second floor for collecting more information.

KNOCKING AT MILITANTS' DEN

The law enforcers knocked at the door of the militants' apartment around 8:30am and asked the terrorists to surrender.

GUNFIGHT

Sensing presence of the members of the joint forces, the militants fired shots at the troops, triggering a gunfight.

Two of militants hurled grenade targeting the law enforcers when the latter tried to enter the apartment.

After a pause for a while, another grenade was hurled as the troops again approached to enter there.

They also hurled another grenade through the window which remained unexplored.

FINAL CONFRONTATION

Later, the joint forces managed to enter the room firing gunshots and found two bodies lying on the floor.

In the meantime, Tamim started firing, triggering a fresh gunfight that left him dead.
