7 Bangladeshis return home today after serving 8 yrs in Pak jail
Seven Bangladeshi citizens who were serving eight years in a Pakistan jail without any specific convictions are coming back to their motherland today, says a press release.
The ill-fated Bangladeshis -- Rafiq of Mymensingh, Ameen-Ul-Haq of Naogaon, Qazi Lal Miah of Rajbari, Sharafuddin of Habiganj, Younus Miah of Sunamganj, Ameer Hussain of Narshingdi and Faiz-Ul-Bari of Sylhet -- served about a decade in the Karachi jail.
Eight years ago, the returnees went to Pakistan through a recruiting agent, but they were arrested by Pakistan police as they had fake papers with them. Nobody came to their rescue for long as the matter did not attract the attention of neither the government nor any human rights organisation.
When the Bangladesh high commission got the news, they contacted the Pakistan government about their release and sought help from Bangladeshi companies which were doing business in Pakistan.
Bangladesh business company MGH Group took the expenses to bring the wretched Bangladeshis back to the country.
Representatives of the group said, “Being a big corporate house of the country, we cannot avoid our corporate social responsibilities. With this end in view, we have come forward to the call to help the Bangladeshi citizens.”
“But these activities would not stop here as far as we know many other Bangladeshi people are serving in Pakistani jails without convictions and we would help in brining them back,” he added.
