3 cops hurt in Dinajpur attack
Three policemen were injured, one critically, as the activists of BNP and its key ally, Jamaat-e-Islami, attacked the law enforcers in Dinajpur today, on the fourth day of the opposition's 131-hour countrywide blockade.
Of the injured, constable Yusuf Ali, 40, was admitted to Dinajpur GeneralHospital with severe injuries in his head and a hand.
Prior to the attack, the opposition men were blockading the Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in Gopalganj area in Dinajpur municipality, said Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dinajpur Sadar Police Station.
As police tried to resist the blockaders around 12:30pm, the activists got into a scuffle with the law enforcers, leaving two policemen injured, the OC said.
At one stage, the activists hurled brick chunks at the law enforcers, leaving constable Yusuf injured critically, reports our Dinajpur correspondent quoting the police official.
Police brought the situation under control around 1:30pm after additional law enforcers had reached the spot.
Yusuf, who was whisked off to the hospital immediate after the incident, sustain severe injuries in his head and one of his hands has already fractured, doctors said.
