3 hurt as 8 vehicles torched, 30 bombs blasted in city
At least three people were injured as unidentified miscreants torched eight vehicles and exploded 30 cocktails at different parts of the capital this evening as an opposition-called 60-hour hartal is underway for a second day.
A man sustained serious burn injuries as two miscreants set fire to a human hauler in capital’s Lalbagh area this evening.
Al Amin, 20, driver of a Leguna, told The Daily Star that two miscreants in disguise of commuters got into the vehicle around 8:00pm.
The miscreants spread gunpowder inside the vehicle and got off at BGB headquarters’ Gate No. 1, and set fire to it, he added.
Al Amin sustained 30 percent burn injuries, police said.
He was rushed to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Pro-hartal activists blasted at least 10 cocktails in Bangshal around 5:00pm, creating panic among pedestrians.
Ten more cocktails were also blasted at Chankharpool around 6:45pm.
Zakir Hossain, a shop owner of the area, received burn injuries in the blast. He was admitted to the DMCH.
A group of unidentified people torched a taxicab in Bijoy Sarani around 7:00pm, fire service officials said.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Unidentified miscreants also set fire to a bus at Farmgate around 9:00pm and torched two luxurious passenger buses in Maniknagar around 6:50pm, fire service officials confirmed.
The pro-hartal activists torched a bus in Baridhara around 8:40pm and Dhamrai around 8:00pm.
Hartal supporters also torched a human hauler in Hazaribagh around 8:30pm.
