Nasser Hasib Siddiqui looks to tell unique stories
Young filmmaker Nasser Hasib Siddiqui's journey is quite interestingly paved with experiences and problems, which make all of it worthwhile.
His first short film, In Search of the Missing Words was selected for the 10th International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh in 2017. The film focuses on abusive and loveless relationships and the ways in which harsh realities can kill one's innocence.
Nasser has also acted in many television commercials and participated in several creative competitions such as the Robi Ad Maker 2015, where his team became the first runners-up. However, at first, Nasser had his share of difficulties finding his passion for filmmaking. He started off with studying engineering at BRAC University, but soon realised it was not for him and joined NSU for BBA instead. His initial knack for filmmaking particularly stemmed from photography. So, in addition to NSU, he took filmmaking courses at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, which helped him greatly.
Nasser is also involved with Finding Bangladesh, both as a script writer and a cast member. Directed by Adnan MS Fakir, whom Nasser sees as one of his mentors, it is a travelogue that focuses on the histories, mythologies and legends of Bangladesh. Apart from filmmaking, one other creative field that Nasser finds thrilling is fire breathing and spinning.
When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Nasser says, “I get to meet and work with people who have this monstrous amount of creativity and energy, and it is contagious.”
As someone who is completely intrigued by the concept of capturing meaningful images and storytelling, he is always making videos and moving around with a camera in his leisure time. Nasser further hopes to tell stories about the different problems that women face in society.
