Vote for AL to continue dev: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday urged all to vote for Awami League in the next general election to continue the development activities in the country.
"The government is working to develop the country by 2020 so that we can celebrate the golden jubilee of Bangladesh in 2021 as a developed country," the prime minister said at a meeting after inaugurating the 1.33-kilometre Bahaddarhat flyover in the port city.
During the meeting with eminent personalities of the port city, the prime minister also named the newly inaugurated flyover after late MA Mannan, an Awami League.
Mannan, who was president of AL Chittagong city unit, was also a labour minister during the AL's last regime. He died last year.
"We will development our country but for it stability of a government is very important," she said while holding the meeting on the ground of Jamiatul Falah Mosque in Chittagong, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
She said the government will further develop Chittagong as it is contributing to the country's socio-economic life.
The premier said the government has taken initiative to turn Chittagong into a commercial capital of Bangladesh.
"After assuming power this time, I have visited Chittagong so many times that it seems to me that I visited Chittagong more times than Tungipara and it shows the importance of the port city," she added.
Citing the success in maritime boundary case against Myanmar, she expressed hope that Bangladesh's claim would be upheld in the debate over the maritime boundary case with India which is scheduled to be pronounce in 2014.
Hasina laid the foundation stone of the flyover in 2010 and its work started in 2011. Around Tk 106 crore has been spent on the project.
After inaugurating the flyover, the prime minister went to Chittagong Press Club and inaugurated a mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman there around 11:00am.
Later, she held the meeting with the eminent citizens of the Chittagong.
Earlier around 9:40am, a helicopter carrying the premier landed on the Chittagong Cantonment ground.
She left Dhaka for Chittagong around 8:30am.
