1 killed, 2 missing in Meghna fishing boat capsize

A fisherman was killed and two others missing as a Barishal-bound launch sailed over a fishing boat in the Meghna river in Chandpur yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Jalil, 15, reports our Chandpur correspondent, quoting Chandpur Harina River Police Outpost in-charge Md Mizanur Rahman.
The missing fishermen are Md Riyad, 17, and Md Moktar, 18. One of the fishermen, Md Faruk, 20, was rescued alive. All four of them are residents of Eidgah Bazar of Ibrahimpur union under Chandpur Sadar upazila, he said.
The four fishermen were sleeping on the boat in the river in the Harina area late Sunday night due to dense fog. At one point, a Barishal-bound launch MV Karnaphuli-3 went over the boat. Three fishermen went missing while one was rescued alive, he said.
Of the three, Abdul Jalil's body washed ashore. The other two fishermen are still missing till this evening, the policeman added.
Local fishermen and families of the deceased and missing persons are searching the river.
Ibrahimpur UP Chairman Kashem Khan said the families of the deceased and missing fishermen are angry over the incident since no action has been taken against the launch yet.
Superintendent of Chandpur River Police Kamruzzaman said, "We will take legal action against the launch after filing a case."
