10th grader killed as picnic bus hit roadside tree in Jamalpur

A 14-year-old student was killed as a picnic bus crashed into a roadside tree in Jamalpur's Sarishabari upazila this morning.

The deceased was identified as Rashedul Islam, a class ten student at Barrister Abdus Salam Talukder High School in Chhataria, said Chand Mia, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station.

The accident occurred around 8:30am at Chhataria intersection in Sarishabari when the picnic bus was carrying the school students to Gazipur Safari Park, said the OC.

Rashedul sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to Sarishabari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

A pall of gloom have descended on the entire school following the death of Rashedul, said Abul Kalam Azad, headmaster of the school.

The bus has been seized by the authorities, the OC added.
