7-member committee formed to probe Secretariat fire
A seven-member high-powered committee has been formed to investigate the fire that broke out in building No. 7 of the Secretariat in Dhaka early today.
The committee, headed by Mohammad Khaled Rahim, additional secretary (district administration) of the Cabinet Division, has been tasked with uncovering the cause of the blaze and assessing the damage, according to an office order of the Cabinet Division.
The committee will submit its report within seven working days, detailing findings and recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.
The other members of the committee include a representative (not below the rank of Joint Secretary) each from Department of Public Safety, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Local Government Division, and a representative of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, who will serve as the member-Secretary.
The two other members are representatives of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Fire Service and Civil Defense Department.
The committee will also examine whether any individuals bear personal or professional responsibility for the incident.
The fire, which broke out on the sixth floor of Secretariat Building No. 7 around 1:52am, was completely doused after 10 hours of effort.
