Meghna boat capsize: Body of missing policeman recovered

The body of a policeman, who went missing following a boat capsize in the Meghna river near Noakhali's Hatia upazila on Saturday, was recovered this afternoon.
The deceased is Saiful Islam, 28, a resident of Charshahi village under Laxmipur Sadar upazila.
Saiful was a nayek in the Noakhali district police lines, said AKM Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Hatia Police Station.
The OC also said locals first noticed the body lying on the river bank near Chardarbesh Bazar around 5:00pm today and informed police.
Later, law enforcers went to the spot and recovered the body, he said.
With this, the death toll rose to three in this incident, OC Azmal added.
The boat departed from Bhasan Char carrying 39 passengers, including four police officers, six Rohingya patients, Ansar personnel, and NGO representatives on Saturday noon.
It was heading towards Ali Bazar terminal, but it capsized near Karim Bazar terminal due to rough weather, approximately 7-8km from Bhasan Char.
Two people -- a postmaster of local post office and a Rohingya woman --died in the incident. A Rohingya child remains missing till the filing of this report around 10:00pm today.
