8 injured in AL-BNP clash in Narsingdi; 8 held

At least eight people were injured during a clash between supporters of ruling Awami League and BNP in Narisingdi's Sadar upazila this morning.
Police so far detained eight people in connection with the incident, our local correspondent reports quoting Narsingdi Sadar Police Station Sub-inspector Ovijit Chowdhury.
According to police, the clash took place between the supporters of Joynal Abedin Sarker, BNP's Alokbali union senior joint convener, and AL's 2 No. ward president Haji Hasan Ali.
Eight activists of both parties sustained injuries. One was admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, SI said. Other injured took primary treatment after the clash, police said.
Locals said Jakir and Joynal are accused in a number of cases. Joynal is accused in four murder cases filed with Narsingdi Sadar Police Station.
Haji Hasan Ali said some of his activists came under attack last night by Joynal's supporters after participating in AL's countrywide programme peacefully.
Joynal's supporters are also accused of vandalising the houses of Haji Hasan Ali, Alokbali union Jubo League president candidate Zakir Hossain, and AL activist Shaheed Mia.
Rubel Ahmed, joint convener of Narsingdi Sadar upazila unit of Shwechhasebok Dal, refuted the allegations.
"Local Awami League men, led by Hasan Ali, suddenly attacked our activists last night and shot four of them around 6:00am. Their (AL) allegations are baseless."
Advocate Asad Ullah, also president of Alokbali union unit of AL, said, "There is a long-standing dispute between Hasan and Joynal over establishing supremacy in the area. However, I do not know why the incident took place. I'll talk to those who are involved with the incident and try to solve the issue."
Sub-inspector Ovijit Chowdhury said, "Now the situation is under control. No one file any written complaint. We will take further steps after investigating the incident."
