The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of serious irregularities, including document tampering, revenue evasion, and collection of excess fees at the Shariatpur Sadar Sub-Registrar Office today.

A five-member team led by Akhtaruzzaman, assistant director of the ACC's Integrated District Office in Madaripur, conducted the raid today, following complaints.

According to the ACC, document classes in original deeds were being altered in exchange for money to dodge government revenue. Additionally, during the issuance of copies, names of buyers and sellers were being changed at will by copyists in return for payment. Copyists were also found to be charging two to three times the government-fixed fees for document copies. Several copyists were found to be involved in this malpractice in an organised manner.

Akhtaruzzaman said, "In the raid, we found proof of revenue evasion amounting to Tk 38,83,505 in a deed from 2021. These irregularities are harmful to the state. We have firmly informed the district sub-registrar that such practices must be stopped in the future."

The ACC official also mentioned the need for legal action and said all collected evidence and information will be submitted to higher authorities.

When contacted, Shariatpur Sadar Sub-Registrar Omar Faruk said, "We welcome the ACC's operation. We provided them with the documents they asked for. Some of those documents have had their revenue collected, while some are still under process. Everything is being reviewed and verified."
