The wife of top criminal Sazzad Hossain, alias Choto Sazzad, has been shown arrested in five murder cases filed over the July uprising.

The court of 4th Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mostafa passed the order this evening after Chandgaon police placed five different petitions to show Sharmin Akhter Tamanna alias Tamanna Sharmin, 35, arrested in the cases, said court sources.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Prosecution) Mafiz Uddin confirmed the matter.

The five cases were lodged with Chandgaon Police Station in connection with the killing of CU students Hridoy Chandra Tarua, salesman Shahidul Islam, Tanvir Siddique, Saimon Mahin, and Fazle Rabbi, who were killed between July 18 to August 4 during the nationwide protest. The investigating officer of the cases submitted the petition against Tamanna respectively.

Earlier, on May 11, a Chattogram court sent Tamanna to jail following a 30-day detention order under the Special Powers Act issued by the home ministry. Md Ziaul Haque Mir, senior assistant secretary of the home ministry's Public Security Division, issued the detention order.

Tamanna is now behind bars in connection with the detention order.

Sazzad was arrested while roaming around Bashundhara Shopping Mall with Tamanna on March 15. Choto Sazzad is accused in at least 15 cases filed over murder, extortion, and other charges. During his arrest, she managed to escape.

Soon after Sazzad's arrest, Tamanna posted a video on Facebook saying, "We will spend bundles of money to bring him back. Be prepared—those responsible for Sazzad arrest won't be spared."

Her reaction quickly went viral on social media, where users widely shared the video and demanded her arrest.

Following Sazzad's arrest, just before Eid-ul-Fitr, two people were shot dead on March 30. Criminals on motorbikes opened fire while chasing a private car along Bakalia Access Road. The driver, Bakhtiar Hossain Manik, 28, and Abdullah Al Rifat were killed in the attack. Police said the killings were carried out to avenge Sazzad's arrest.

Police said Tamanna is an FIR-named accused in Bakalia double murder case filed with the Bakalia Police Station.
