Jashore UP member accused of raping woman at gunpoint

A case has been filed against a union parishad member in Jashore's Sadar upazila on charges of raping an expatriate's wife at gunpoint and threatening to spread a video of the incident on social media.

Kayem Hossain Dipu, 32, member of Churamonkati Union Parishad, allegedly committed the crime while the woman's husband was abroad.

Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the filing of the case.

"Following a complaint file with a court on January 16, police formally recorded the case last night as per the court directives," the OC said, adding that investigation is underway.

According to the case details, Dipu had been harassing the victim, 20, sending her indecent images via WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and making unwanted advances. When she rejected him, he began spreading malicious propaganda against her.

On January 13, around 12:30am, Dipu entered the victim's house armed, while 4-5 accomplices stood guard outside. He raped her at gunpoint and recorded the assault on his mobile phone. When the woman screamed, neighbours rushed to the scene, prompting Dipu to flee. Before escaping, he threatened her not to report the incident, warning that he would release the video online.

Upon her husband's return on January 15, the couple decided to pursue legal action. However, Dipu further threatened to publish the video if they went ahead with the case.
