Journo attacked during live broadcast after referring to protesters as "Pro-Zubair"
A DBC television journalist was assaulted during a live broadcast in Tangail yesterday afternoon by a group of protesters demanding arrest and ban of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi's followers from the Tabligh Jamaat faction.
Sohel Talukdar, DBC Channel's Tangail correspondent, said he was attacked and assaulted after referring to the protesters as supporters of Maulana Zubair Ahmad.
When other journalists present tried to save Sohel, they were also attacked.
The incident took place around 3:00pm during a demonstration aimed at besieging the Deputy Commissioner's office to demand the arrest and ban of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi's followers.
In response, local journalists convened an emergency meeting at the Press Club, where they strongly condemned and protested the incident.
Later, representatives of the Ulama Mashayekh, led by Maulana Abdur Rahman, joint secretary of the District Qawmi Ulama Parishad, expressed regret and apologised for the assault on journalists and said that no members of the Ulama Mashayekh were involved in the incident.
