Gunfight

A local BNP leader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Dhaka's Badda area last night.

The victim, Kamrul Ahsan Shadhon, aged around 52, was the BNP Gulshan Thana joint convener, said Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam.

Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan said the incident occurred around 10:06pm on Road 4 of Badda's Godaraghat area. When Kamrul was sitting on a chair on the roadside and talking with 2-3 people, two assailants on foot came from behind and shot him before fleeing the scene.

Kamrul was involved in the cable TV and internet supply business.

The OC said he visited the spot after receiving the information.

"We are trying to identify and arrest the perpetrators. The motive behind the murder could not be known immediately. Details can be known after investigation," he said.

Kamrul was taken to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Bangladesh where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The body was kept at the morgue for autopsy.
