A man was allegedly stabbed to deathby his elder brother over a trivial matter in Chougachha upazila of Jashore this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shihab Uddin, 21, son of Mohidul Islam of Shahajadpur village in the upazila.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chougachha Police Station, the accused, Sumon Hossain, 25, fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Quoting locals, OC Anwar said the two brothers—Shihab and Sumon—got into a dispute around 4:00pm after Shihab asked Sumon to return his bicycle.
During the altercation, Sumon reportedly brought a knife from inside the house and stabbed Shihab in the left side of his back, leaving him critically injured.
Family members and locals rushed Shihab to Chougachha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Sajib Hossain, a physician of the hospital's emergency department, said the stab wound had penetrated deep into the chest.
"He was declared dead upon arrival," the physician said.
OC Anwar added that police have visited both the crime scene and the hospital. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the accused, who remains at large.
Meanwhile, the victim's maternal uncle Chandu Mia filed a case against Sumon in this regard, added the OC.
