Man stabs mother-in-law after wife refuses to return in Dinajpur

A man allegedly stabbed his mother-in-law to death early today in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur.

The deceased, Reba Beshra, 55, was the wife of Budu Hazda of Rampara Chaulia village in the upazila, said Abdul Gaful, officer-in-charge of Birganj Police Station.

According to the OC, Reba's daughter, Mini Hajda, 35, had taken shelter at her parental home around a month ago after enduring repeated abuse by her husband, Samial Mardi, 45.

Around 12:30am today, Samial, a resident of the same village, went to his in-laws' house and demanded that his wife return home. When she refused, he attacked her with a sharp weapon.

As Reba tried to intervene to protect her daughter, Samial allegedly stabbed her. She died on the spot.

Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The victim's family is preparing to file a case, the OC added.
