Bangladesh-Denmark cooperation to focus on animal welfare, food safety

Bangladesh and Denmark today signed a cooperation agreement to ensure safe and sustainable food production in the country.
The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) of Bangladesh and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration signed the government-level agreement.
Under the agreement, Denmark will support Bangladesh in achieving safe and efficient milk production, with the goal of eventually becoming self-sufficient in the sector.
As part of the partnership, Danish experts will train Bangladeshi livestock extension officials with a focus on feed, animal health, biosecurity, and animal welfare in dairy production.
The partnership is expected to drive growth, improve industry standards, and foster innovation in the sector.
"This initiative marks a new chapter in our journey towards a greener, safer, and more efficient dairy sector – empowering our workforce with the knowledge and tools to meet future challenges and ensure long-term food security," said Md Abu Sufiun, director general of the Department of Livestock Services, in a statement.
Christian Brix Møller, Danish ambassador to Bangladesh, said it is crucial to work towards a global food system that ensures safe and sustainable food products for the benefit of the people – and the farmers producing it.
"I am proud that Denmark and Bangladesh are working together to ensure this in Bangladesh," he added.
