Make govt procurement process more competitive: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to make sure that government procurement goes through competition to become more open and free.

She gave this directive at a cabinet meeting today.

The cabinet committee meeting was held with the prime minister in the chair.

Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain briefed reporters following the meeting at the secretariat.

"The prime minister has given an important directive. We have to make sure that the competition is more open, free in the public procurement that we have," he said.

Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Department (IMED) will now work on it and make the necessary changes, added the cabinet secretary.

"It is seen that many companies do not have the capacity, which means that some companies are getting work despite not having the capacity. This is delaying many of our development activities," he said.
