Students of Government Brojomohun (BM) College in Barishal have been staging their demonstration for the fifth consecutive day today demanding immediate resolution of the 15-point demand, which includes infrastructural development on campus.

Following the demonstration, all academic and administrative activities have remained suspended.

When asked, Principal Prof Md Tajul Islam said, "I've already held meetings at the ministry level and with the Education Engineering Department. They have assured me that four new academic buildings will be constructed, old buildings will be renovated, and drainage systems will be improved."

He also said, "We've submitted a list of qualified teachers interested in joining this institution, and I'm hopeful the faculty shortage will soon be resolved. I've discussed these developments with the students, and they have given positive feedback about temporarily suspending their protest."

Despite the principal's assurance, students said that they will remain firm in their demands for concrete action rather than promises.

Shahabuddin Mia, a student of the economics department, told The Daily Star that suspension of the academic activities including classes and exams will continue tomorrow.

"The movement will continue until the crisis is resolved," he said.

Their demands include construction of new hostels and academic buildings, a permanent drainage solution to mitigate waterlogging, recruitment of adequate teachers, establishment of a modern library, and provision of transport facilities at the 136-year-old institution.

Their demands were initially five-point demands, but later the protest expanded into a 15-point demand, according to the students.
