Impatience over polls hurting reforms

Impatience of political parties regarding elections is hurting the government's reform efforts, said Adviser Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan yesterday.
"We call on political parties to support the reform process, as it is inclusive and aims to build a more equitable and democratic system," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a winter clothing distribution event in Kaharol, Dinajpur.
He said elections will be held according to the government's timeline, between late 2025 and mid-2026, after the completion of reforms.
"The reform commissions have been actively working for the past three months. Once their reports are published, the interim government will engage with political parties and stakeholders to finalise and implement the reforms. Only then will we proceed towards elections," Asif said.
Addressing questions about his involvement in anti-discrimination student movements and their political decisions, Asif said, as an advisor to the current government, he cannot comment on the political decisions of any movement or organisation.
However, he assured that the government is working diligently to fulfil the aspirations of the people expressed during the recent popular uprising.
"The abolition of fascist system and necessary institutional reforms are our priorities," he added.
