Interim govt an outcome of country's unity: Yunus

CA urges political parties to extend support at all-party meeting on July uprising proclamation

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today said his interim government is an outcome of the unity that the countrymen demonstrated during the student-led mass uprising in July-August, calling upon political parties to extend their support to the government.

"When we work alone and suddenly see you are not around us, we feel weak," he said, during his opening address in a dialogue with different political parties over a proclamation regarding the movement at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

"We were born from unity and unity is our strength," he added.

The chief adviser said the interim government called for the dialogue after students who led the uprising came to him and told him that there will be a proclamation, and insisted on him being part of it.

He said he then told the students that if they want to go back to August 5 then they have to recreate what happened on that day and that it cannnot be done alone but for this, they will be need to unite everyone.

Holding the dialogue came from this idea of uniting everyone, he further said.

He added that as long as the interim government is in office they want to continue with unity, urging political parties to give them courage.

Stressing the importance of the proclamation, the chief adviser said if it can be created unanimously then it will not only be good for the country, but it will also enhance Bangladesh's image globally.

With its success, everyone around the world will have an idea about Bangladesh's strength as a nation, he added.
