March for Unity: Programme begins at Shaheed Minar as thousands gather
Students from all over the country have gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka to join the "March for Unity" programme, initiated by the Students Against Discrimination.
The programme is set to begin in the afternoon.
Students, in groups, arrived at the scene carrying banners. Upon reaching the square, they began chanting slogans against autocracy and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Shafiqul Islam, a student from Moulvibazar, mentioned that around 300 students from his area had joined the gathering.
The Students Against Discrimination kicked off their "March for Unity" programme by observing a 1-minute silence in remembrance of those martyred in the July uprising.
Abul Hasan, father of martyred Shahriar Hasan Alvi, gave the introductory speech at the event.
Meanwhile, thousands of members of different units of Students Against Discrimination and Jatiya Nagorik Committee continue to pour in at the Shaheed Minar.
