PM opens 150 bridges in 39 districts
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today opened 150 bridges and 14 overpasses under Roads and Highways Department (RHD), giving a big boost to country's transport sector.
From a programme at the RHD headquarters, she also inaugurated the constructions of two major bridges in Mymensingh to improve road connectivity, particularly with the area's land ports and the capital.
The prime minister also inaugurated the compensation programme for road accident victims for the first time.
Total 162 road accident victims and their families got the compensation today and among them she handed over cheque to four families in person during the programme.
She also virtually launched the automated Vehicle Inspection Centre (VIC) in the capital's Mirpur; a newly constructed building of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority in Tejgaon, and BRTC's bus depot and training centre in Mymensingh.
She also opened a mural of Bangabandhu on the RHD headquarters premises.
BSS reports, the premier also unveiled the cover of a book titled "Unnayan Darpon" featuring the development of the road transport and bridges sector by the Awami League government in Bangladesh for the last 15 years.
Earlier, on her arrival at the Sarak Bhaban, the prime minister was welcomed by a group of children.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Road Transport and Bridges Ministry's Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman Rowshan Ara Mannan spoke at the event, BSS adds.
A video documentary on the development projects was screened at the programme.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Rowshan Ara Mannan, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on the road transport and bridges ministry, ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, secretary of road transport and highways division and RHD Chief Engineer were present at the event.
